Soo

Next time you need a croissant you should give Canele Bakery a try:

Kirk

I have that one on my list Soo. Also have just recently checked out Black Market Bakery and Patisserie Melanie.

Junichi

So the search continues!

Kirk

Yes...it keeps rolling along Junichi!

Patisserie Melanie's croissants are on the smaller side and pricy. Not very impressed by her kouign amann though (also small and wierdly, not flaky enough). Black Market Bakery is pretty good though! I really like the one with ham and cheese inside.Another good one for croissants is the French Oven in Scripps Ranch

Kirk

Well, not super terrible; but not great Kat!

Hi CC - We find that as a whole the croissants in the US are much too large. We weren't fans of the plain croissants from Black Market - they weren't weren't very good on their own. I di French Oven back in October:

Hi Kirk, small croissants are good but Patisserie Melanie's aren't flaky. They are just blah. Sorry, I forgot about the French Oven post!

Kirk

Yes, they were quite mediocre CC.....

James

Such a bummer! Thanks for taking one for the team!

Kirk

It wasn't that bad James...at least H&E's version! thanks for the rec's!

Hi Kirk,

For a flaky croissant I suggest you try the ones at Cafe Zumbar
in Sorrento Valley. The coffee there is spectacular of course, but
I really enjoy their croissants too. Not sure where they get them,
maybe Opera Patisserie also in Sorrento Valley?

Best!

- Ranjit.

Kirk

Hi Ranjit - Thanks so much for the recommendation! i'll go check it out.
