Soo

You gotta go home! I had some great meals in Kauai back in August. :-)

Kirk

Kind of a bummer Kat.

I really do need to get back home Soo!

Junichi

Seems most Hawaiian places around town are more about quantity over quality. At least the mac salad was good!

Kirk

Hi Junichi - Even in Hawaii it's pretty much quantity over quality.....but it really depends on how well you prepare things and personal taste. I've been eating this stuff for most of life, so there's some imprint in terms of taste.

Derric

Hi Kirk. Thanks for putting a description to the gravy at Chris'. There's something about it that strikes me as odd for a few bites but after that the flavor settles in for me. Thanks for mentioning the teri steak as I haven't had it that way, just with the steak & eggs bowl.

RedDevil

Kind of depressing. I had some musubi from HH in Tierrasanta recently that were decent. Anyway, thanks for the report.

Kirk

Hi Derric - Yeah, I'm not a fan of that gravy. Other than the Mac Salad, that teri beef was the best.

Hi RD - It could be that I've eaten plate lunches most of my life....

MikeC

Even though Ono Grinds is within walking distance of my house, I prefer going to Homestyle Hawaiian, either in Tierrasanta or by Mesa College (I prefer Tierrasanta over Mesa for ambience and a decent selection of beers). My favorite thing at Ono is their beef short ribs (and their mac salad). Everything else is pretty meh. At least it's 10x better than L&L, which is awful.

James

The two times I've ordered from Chris' (both at this location and their old one on Mission Gorge), I've found the mac salad to be marred by macaroni that needed to be more tender. I need to go back!

Kirk

Hi MikeC - I'll definitely check out the short ribs the next time I visit.....whenever that might be.

Let me know if the mac salad there is better than you recall James.
