mmm-yoso!!!, a blog about food in San Diego (and beyond). Today, Kirk is converging toward an objective, Ed (from Yuma) is advancing toward an intention and Cathy is here, with a focus toward the target of blogging.
A few weeks ago, it looked almost like today, but with only an expectation of rain. The Mister and I needed to do some grocery shopping and headed out to Zion Market, which has quite a few eateries inside the store as well as a Food Court area. The Produce area was quite crowded. We picked up items on our list, as well as whatever was on sale, then headed all the way to the back-toward the 'Kitchen' area, located along the East wall between the meat and seafood counters.
The hot and room temperature counters had just been filled with freshly prepared items.
The refrigerated, pickled item case was also freshly assembled.
We selected some items here, paid for all of our purchases then walked over to the Food Court area and grabbed a table. We managed to unwrap everything and take a photo before enjoying a nice lunch. (Chopsticks and napkins are given at the market cash registers.)
Clockwise from 11:00---Fish pancakes ($4.54), barley tea ($1.50), real crab California rolls ($3.25), kimchi steamed dumplings ($3.75) and a whole teriyaki grilled squid ($4.99).

The produce area is such a zoo sometimes! No, make that all the time. I didn't care for the kimchi dumplings, but I do like the fish pancakes and California rolls. I also like their rainbow rolls, and next time I will look for the grilled squid.

The squid looks fabulous! I usually don't get past Paris Baguette so I can see I need to look around more. Thanks for the post.

I like the fish pancakes as well as the mixed seafood ones. I've brought my own paper plates in the past while Bert, TC and I shared 3 or 4 small dishes. I would rather buy items from their deli than eat at any of their food court eateries.

The kitchen also makes a meat (unsure if pork or beef) dumpling, Sandy. I grabbed this package because it was smaller than the others; the dumplings were OK...our 'something new' item. The produce area has such good prices along with rapid overturn of product, so everything is fresh.
The squid is great, Ken- tender with a not too sweet teriyaki. We usually park near Paris Baguette and I always intend to stop there on the way out, and really haven't for quite a while now...but the shaved ice bowls are back...
I do have a few pairs of emergency chopsticks in the car, but no paper plates, cc! After trying the Food Court so many times (you see we've posted seven times already), the Kitchen/Deli area is a bit more interesting, along with my 'shop in the store, eat in the store' attitude.
