I'm craving banh mi!

LOL YY! You wouldn't be if you had the one from Corner Cafe! ;o)

banh mi!! what great comparisons!

Hi Kat - The best part was being able to spend time with some of my favorite people!

Crazy, been to Lucky Seafood many times but never had a banh mi at express deli! I'm craving one asap. Super duper useful post.

Hi Dennis - It was a fun thing for me to do!

I am spoiled by SoCal banh mi and having one in San Antonio recently was DISGUSTING it had mechanically separated chicken slice deli meat and that was the special. My wife craved it but I help out and had Taco B3ll instead.

Hah Express Deli is our favorite too, although we have been going to K Sandwiches lately because it's a closer drive. We might have to hit Mira Mesa in the coming weeks!

We've been making regular stops to Cali Baguette Express to buy their bread. I'm looking forward to their Convoy Street location to get banh mi since I work in the area. I had wondered about the Corner Cafe, but I won't be in a hurry to visit them. Fun post!

Jeff C

now I'm craving Banh Mi. I'm going to have to go make a Mr. Lee's run.

Such an interesting and fun day. Amazing how different all the banh mis are.
I still want to do the "trolley stop crawl".

What a great way to spend the day :) Would have loved to have been one of your tasters. Living in Tucson now. No banh mi here. :( Saw your earlier post on Baguette Up. Thanks for the nod. Too bad the food wasn't decent.

That doesn't sound very good Bill!

Hi Fred - Personally, I'm not a big fan of K.

Hi Sandy - Man, that Banh Mi from Corner Cafe was strange.... and not in a good way.

Hi Jeffrey - Funny thing..... I don't think I'll be having a Banh Mi for a while!

Hi Ange - I'm sure we'll be doing that soon.

Hi Pheth - Oh my, when did you move??? I'd love to have you along with us!

I used to go to Sorrento European for lunch at least 2-3 times a week. A co-worker and I would share the "buy-5-get-1-free," deal eating 2 bahn-mis each, and save the third for "Elevensies"

Thanks for letting me know there are so many other options!

Hi Jase - You know, I thought Sorrento was going to be one of the better ones. But it just didn't happen that way. There are quite a few Banh Mi choices in the area now.

Awesome post! I had expected banh mi would be the next Reader article. ;-) I haven't tried Express Deli's sandwiches but I'm going to get a couple next time I'm there to shop. Glad to see Cali Baguette getting a thumbs up although it's been a while since I've been there.

Nice! Now I know where to go next time I'm in the MM area for banh mi. :)

Hi Carol - I think I'll wait until the spring for that one! ;o) It was quite interesting to see that the favorites (and least favorite) were unanimous!

Hi Rosa - There's quite a few Banh Mi shops in MM.

The Food Detective

You all missed the luscious eyebrows.

I have a request for a banh mi crawl in OC. I think I wrote that already but didn't see my post. Did someone delete it?

LOL TFD....... I didn't see a request for a Banh Mi crawl in the OC..... but heck, that'll be fun, but take a bit more planning!
