Of the 18 years I've lived in SD, I've yet to eat at Anthony's. I don't know why, it's just one of those things. The food looks good. Now my stomach is growling.

Eat. Travel. Eat!

I haven't had a chowder bowl for two years now! Really want one now :). I'll try to visit this place next time I visit SD. The view looks fabulous!

when i saw anthony's grotto on my feed, i knew it was you that wrote this post =p clam chowder looks great...i haven't had it in a bread bowl. i could go for some right now tho

Oh Carol. Anthony's and the Ghio family *are* San Diego. The food is always fresh and prepared just right. Lunch specials M-Sat and really, you can't go wrong.
I had never had it in a bowl, ETE. Because I crave the chowder more than the bread (rare for me) and this was just perfect. All the Anthony's locations have great views.
I am kind of predictable, aren't I, Sawyer? A good clam chowder is always satisfying. The chowder here is the best.

Stephen

Cathy,
Thanks for the post. I love the place. Its nice to get a table near the window to look out at the water.
The fish counter has excellent fresh fish, and the prices are very reasonable. They have their own fishing fleet, so they are able to keep prices down. Ok, now i'm going to be a heretic. I prefer their red clam chowder. I think they call it "fisherman's style. Sometimes I get a craving and have to make a special trip just to get a pint or a quart.

Well, Stephen. Hi again. I think I am going to try the red chowder next time. See, I met this boy who grew up in Boston a *very* long time ago, and he told me the white one was the only kind. I think I shall be 'wild and crazy' soon. I miss that they stopped the smoked fish, both at the counterand on the menu. :(
