ed (from Yuma)

Thanks for the recipes.

Wasn't it also originally called Decoration Day, back when groups would go decorate the graves of Civil War (Union only, of course) veterans? There was a Confederate Memorial Day for a while as well.

Cathy

Thanks for the correction, ed. My Dad (a WWll Veteran) would be disappointed I remembered incorrectly, but happy I always have the flag flying in front of my home, even when it isn't a holiday.

Carol

Cathy, we must be on similar brainwaves. I was at Henry's just yesterday and picked up a bunch of fruit. Mangos 3 for $1!! Blueberries and blackberries. I have apples and peaches already and planning on making a rustic tart that looks similar to your apple breakfast. I'm using up a jar of rasberry jam instead of cranberry sauce.

Hope everyone has a wonderful long Memorial weekend!

"Apple Breakfast"? Wait What?
Sure doesn't look like it.

Hey Carol- So simple to do with whatever fruit you have. The jam would go well also, but kind of sweet if you use too much. I think...
Hi, Ging. The bottom, under the cranbery sauce is sliced apples. You can see some wedges in the photo. Welcome to the blog.

Looks amazing. Bacon wouldn't be so bad in the potato salad. But is your white pepper expired?

I'm definitely going to try that watermelon chiller.

Cathy

Hi Johari and welcome to our blog. Good eye. I actually have a giant bottle (3.5 ounces) of white pepper and have refilled smaller bottles that I keep in my car, carry on, and 'purse' (along with chopsticks in each place) in case of a food emergency. I like the taste of white peper, kind of nutmeg-ish, and you don't see it mixed in like black pepper flakes. The watermelon is so easy and tasty and refreshing. Happy Memorial Day.
